The Indian Sub-Continent is some of the best-preserved wilderness areas. India is home to several well-known large animals, including the Indian elephant, Indian rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, Asiatic lion, Indian leopard, snow leopard, and clouded leopard. There are 564 existing wildlife sanctuaries in India covering an area of 122509.33 km, which is 3.73% of the geographical area of the country.
Jim Corbett National Park - Famous for having the highest number of tigers among Indian national parks. July to September is the best time to visit as these three months constitute the monsoon season in Corbett.
Kanha National Park - The forest depicted in the famous novel by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book is based on jungles including this reserve. The park has a significant population of the Royal Bengal tiger, Indian leopards, the sloth bear, barasingha and Indian wild dog.
Gir National Park - Only national park in India that nurtures to Asiatic Lions. As the protected area remains closed from June to October, the best time to visit Gir is in winter, from November to March.
Ranthambore National Park- The winter season between October and March is considered the best time to visit Ranthambore National Park due to the pleasant weather condition ranges between comfortable 10℃ and 30℃. Its landmarks include the imposing 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, on a hilltop, and the Ganesh Mandir temple.
Hemis National Park - Is the largest national park in India spanning an area of 4,400 sq km. It is also known to be the largest national park in South Asia. The park supports a viable breeding population of about 200 snow leopards. Vehicles are not allowed inside the park. Tourists can go trekking to enjoy the stunning landscapes and rich wildlife of the park.
Sundarbans National Park - The Sundarbans is of universal importance for globally endangered species including the Royal Bengal Tiger, Ganges and Irawadi dolphins, & estuarine crocodiles. It is the only mangrove habitat in the world for Panthera tigris species. October and March are considered as the best time to visit the Sundarbans National Park as the weather during these days are more pleasant.
