The land of High Passes, Ladakh, a high-altitude
desert, is defined by craggy, barren cliffs and plateaus. It is a place where the landscape
changes dramatically; it is truly astonishing to see the mountains, snow, cold desert,
alpine meadows and lakes at a short distance from each other. Ladakh is home to some of the
highest motorable passes like Khardung La (5359 m), Marsimik La (5582 m), and Chang La (5360
m), and alpine lakes like Pangong Tso (4350 m) and Tso Moriri (4522 m). Ladakh is further
divided into three regions - Leh, Nubra, and Zanskar, and each region has several places to

Ladakh

Nubra Valley – Home to an alpine cold desert, the 33-meter statue of Jampa and
Bactrian camels.
Zanskar – An offbeat and lesser – visited side of Ladakh, primarily known for its
Frozen river trek.
Kargil – Second largest town in Ladakh, primarily known for its Kargil War and
the War memorial.
Drass – Called the gateway to Ladakh, is also known as the 2nd coldest inhabited
place in the world.
Khardung la Pass - The highest motorable pass in the world.
Pangong Tso Lake - Situated at an altitude of 4350m, is amongst the top tourist
attractions in Ladakh.
Tsomoriri Lake - A large number of flora and fauna is found in the region.
Hanle - It is a quiet little village that offers some of the best views. It also
famous for housing the world's 3rd highest optical telescope
Best time to visit Ladakh: Ideal time to visit is between April and September. April to
June, the temperature ranges between 5°C and 25°C. Since Ladakh falls in a high-altitude region,
it receives no to very little rain between July and September.
